PADI Open Water Certified Divers and Some Celebration!

PADI Open Water Certified Divers and Some Celebration!

Well, it we did it! We got our PADI Open Water SCUBA certification and our instructor said we did great. We both got a 90% on our final and got our picture taken for the ID. We were pretty happy! We had two dives today. And they were even better than the first two. I had some weight problems with my weight belt (too much weight) and I changed out my BCD for one that fit better. It made a HUGE difference in my buoyancy underwater. It was so peaceful and I felt very comfortable. We went down to 18 meters (60 feet) it's weird how the water gets to deep blue at that level. And we definitely felt the difference in water temperature. Although still very warm.

What did we see?

We saw a lot more plant and animal life too. We saw a trumpet fish, lots of parrot fish of all different types, a huge lobster, and a peacock flounder which was awesome. We also saw a trunk fish (shaped like a triangle) and another stingray close fairly close to us. We were less tired from these dives, and feel like were getting our sea legs. We got to go along this wall, which is a coral drop off, which had an incredible views of coral with lots of fish, and rays of sunlight peeking through. BEAUTIFUL.

We came home by 11am and took our written test and passed, and then took short naps. We caught a wonderful sunset on the dock and then got ready to go out and celebrate our graduation.

Karaoke and Celebration

It was karaoke night at the bar at the end of our dive college's dock. It was a blast! The place was packed and everyone was singing along with songs. We loved it, and I hate karaoke. We said goodbye to our friends Erin and Rob from Vancouver who were leaving for Tikal. And spent the night laughing and having fun until the wee hours of the morning with our other friends George and Christina. George is from London, and Christina from Boston by way of Brooklyn. We really had a lot in common and loved their company. We think we will continue to be friends with all these people in the future.

We both feel very very fortunate to have our scuba certification. I would recommend ANYONE do it! It was really fun and absolutely the most uniquely different thing we have ever done. You cannot explain how it is to breath underwater to someone else. You just have to do it to know. Tomorrow will be a good day as we have the day off.
