Introduction to Diving- Our First Day Of Our PADI Open Water Diver Course

Introduction to Diving- Our First Day Of Our PADI Open Water Diver Course

So we got up today and we had class at 12pm with our instructor Nick who's from Belgium. We went over our tests we took earlier and asked us if we had any questions. After that we learned about our equipment.  Actually had to break down and put together our gear a few times, (5 total) and finally we got the chance to try it out in the pool.  Our introduction to diving was about to start in our first time wearing a breathable apparatus underwater!

Breathing Underwater - Introduction to Diving

It was INCREDIBLE!! We both absolutely loved it! It felt natural to both of us, and we were able to return all the skills back to the instructor in record time. He called us his "Intellectual Champions" which was nice to hear! (even if we have known this for years!!)

We learned to breathe, clear a mask, share an alternate air source, and a bunch of other things. It was truly amazing how fun it is to breath under water for such an extended period of time. Tomorrow we will get to go into the ocean, and do another "confined" dive in shallow water. Were are extremely excited as we both loved today in the pool! We also had to swim 200 meters and tread water or float for 10 minutes. It was easy for us.

Spectacular Sunsets on the Dock

After this we did some shopping in town, and made it back to the Bay Island College's dock for sunset which was spectacular!!!! We highly recommend this dive school on Utila and feel that our instruction from Nick is incredible.  Tomorrow we will also get to start our first open water dive from a boat in the afternoon... 2 of them in fact! It will be a very memorable day!  There is something magical about breathing underwater and it felt natural to us.  We were extremely happy after our pool session and looked at each other and simply smiled.   We both knew that was going to be something we will be doing for the rest of our lives.
