Tuxtla Gutierrez Mexico
We drove to Tuxtla by crossing into Mexico from Guatemala. No issues at the border minus an extensive search by an overzealous border agent. We spent a night in Tapachula to see if they had a way to fix our Jeep’s transmission. They said there was a Jeep Dealership in Tuxtla Gutierrez and we headed that way. We were in Tuxtla Gutierrez for about 8 days getting the Jeep fixed and saw some incredible things while we were there including, Parque De La Marimba (Marimba Park) El Canon Sumidero (Sumidero Canyon) and Chiapa De Corzo. We also went to San Cristobal De Las Casas for a few days to check out this mountain town. We saw the Canyon Sumidero from the top and the bottom on different days. The Mirador (lookouts) of the drive around the rim of the canyon are beautiful and well laid out. The boat ride we did the other day was awe inspiring and majestic! Seeing crocodiles along the shores, and zooming through the canyon on a speedboat for a few hours was a highlight of this trip. San Cristobal De Las Casas is simply a special place with cobblestone streets and colonial architecture. Although we didn’t take many pictures while camping at San Cristobal, it was one of our favorite places to camp in Central America. Marimba park was a special thing as well and will always be in our memories. Dancing in a park next to a baroque gazebo with hundreds of other locals dancing along next to us was an unforgettable experience. We loved the park and the vendor tents, people watching and food around the park.
